When you create a data profile, you're creating a way to access your data through SharePoint. The data contained in the data profile can then be inserted into a report template.

Within SharePoint, click the Create Windward Data Profile web part. The Arrow Data Source Wizard will walk you through creating a data profile.

In the first screen:

  1. Enter a title for the data profile. It can be something as simple as Sales Data or Data Source 1.

  2. Enter an optional description for the data profile. This can help remind you what data is stored in the profile.

  3. In the Save Location drop-down menu, select the SharePoint site and document library where you'd like to save the data profile.

  4. Under type of data, select whether you'll use data from an SQL database or an XML file by choosing the appropriate radio button. Click Next.

If the data is located in an SQL database:

  1. Select the make and model of the database and select the Step By Step radio button. Click Next.

  2. Select the server and enter login information. Click Next.

  3. Select the database and click Next. On the next screen, click the Test button. When you see the "Data Connection Successful" message, click Finish.

If the data is located in an XML file:

  1. Enter the XML file location and your login information, if necessary. Click Next.

    1. Enter your user name without the domain part.  For example, enter "user" instead of "DOMAIN\user".

  2. Click the Test button. When you see the "Data Connection Successful" message, click Finish.
